SUPPORTING SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Alpha Chi Omega's national philanthropy, Domestic Violence Awareness (DVA), seeks to raise awareness of domestic violence in our communities while supporting survivors of domestic violence through fundraising and service. Alpha Chi Omega is the first American women's fraternity to shed light on the issues of domestic violence, not only through assisting survivors, but by educating our own members and communities. Alpha Chi Omega chapters across the nation seek to educate our campus communities about the many many forms and warning signs of domestic violence, bring available resources to light, and promote healthy relationships.
The Iota Nu chapter strives to achieve this goal by holding workshops for our sisters, as well as hosting quarterly philanthropy events to educate our peers about domestic violence and raise funds. All funds raised by our chapter go toward the national Alpha Chi Omega Foundation and our local beneficiary, Center for Community Solutions (CCS). CCS operated the only rape crisis center in San Diego and provides counseling, medical aid, legal aid, and other resources to survivors.
In addition to serving our philanthropy through our own chapter events, our members become active participants in other philanthropic and service opportunities in and outside of the Sorority & Fraternity Life community, on and off campus.

Quarterly events
fallDomestic Violence Awareness Month
Each October, we host our main philanthropy event in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In the week leading up to each annual event, we host tabling events to educate the UCSD community about DVA. Through such events, people can participate in our national "Love Is" campaign by writing down and sharing what love means to them, thus promoting healthy relationships. We also host our "These Hands Don't Hurt" campaign, where individuals can sign a pledge to stand in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence. WINTERHealthy Relationships Week
In the month of February, one week is dedicated nationally to Healthy Relationships Week, which takes place the same week as Valentine's Day. During this week, Alpha Chi Omega is dedicated to promoting healthy relationships in all possible forms. Cupcakes N' Compliments During Healthy Relationships Week, our chapter hosts this annual cupcake delivery service event. During week-long tabling events on Library Walk, we sell homemade cupcakes and handmade cards. At the end of the week, recipients receive these tokens of appreciation hand-delivered by us to their on-campus location or at a designated on-campus pickup station. This event encourage our peers to recognize and embody healthy relationships. All proceeds raised goes directly to the Center for Community Solutions. springSexual Assault Awareness Month
During the Spring quarter, our chapter hosts educational tabling on and around Denim Day to help educate our campus community about national Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April. |
